Boian Column draws on archaeological interpretations of an artifact that was found bearing a stepped pattern. This form has been theorized as part of a ritual structure associated with the axis mundi, with the pattern either ascending to heaven or descending into hell. In this piece, the vertical motif is preserved while its ritual function is mechanized. The column’s pattern is set in continuous ascending motion, transforming embodied, durational worship into passive observation.
